Community Meeting Thurdsday

There will be a town hall-style meeting Thursday August 16 at the Farmer's & Merchant's Bank building at 4th & Main Streets. It is hosted by the Downtown Neighborhood Council and the Historic Downtown Business Improvement District, both of which are headed by Russell Brown, who has become the number one downtown workaholic (which is a good thing for the rest of us).

The meeting will run from 6:30 to 8:30 and will consist of a "meet your neighbors" event for the first 1/2 hour or so, followed by a series of short presentations on various projects and programs being proposed and built in the near future in Downtown Los Angeles. Some of the presentations will discuss new real estate developments, others beautification and cultural issues. It should be pretty informative.

I will be speaking regarding filming "Special Conditions" and talking a little about the Downtown Art Walk and the DASH service for the Art Walk.

One thing that will be announced is new landscaping which has begun to appear along Main Street from 4th to 7th. Potted plants were set in place yesterday on the west side of Main Street, and will be followed by more on the east side of Main in 2 weeks. It should really help to make the street feel more friendly, as soon as the plants grow in somewhat. It seems to be a mix of trees, bushes, and some hardy grass-like flowering plants.
